The brief for Project 5 is as follows, The theme is A Journey which is to be created as a soundscape in Surround Sound and has to be at least 3 minutes in length. And be made of a combination of recorded sounds using surround sound mic techniques, field recordings, virtual instrumentation and so on.
The basic plan so far with the group I'm working with (consisting of Glen, Calum and myself) is to cover a journey through time using location based surround recordings of scene areas.
These have been split into three zones.
The First, A Seascape, to cover the earliest stage in time which will be supplemented with drumming to match the earliest forms of music, before transitioning towards classical. Animal/bird sound will likely be captured as well (possibly separately with field recording equipment). This will be recorded at either Weymes Bay or largo Beach.
The second area, would be a woodland forest, to highlight the move away from the sea and going inland as humans need to be tied to the sea becomes less of a requirement. As with the seascape, recording of wildlife if possible will be attempted. Supplemented into this as well will be melodic folk music. The location for this will either be the woodlands near to Lower largo (heading inland) or Leven/lethem Glen.
The final area will cover the industrial age, and for this the aim is to do a surround recording within the New Skills Area within Fife College, with additional sounds picked up from individual machines as and where possible. Musically the aim here will be to add in a form of metal music to match an industrial setting.
The surround sound recording equipment will be recorded using the Portable Soundfield Mic using the portable 8 channel Preamp/recorder
