In March I had the opportunity to do a recording session with Dunfermline-based metal band Tunderblasta, on an original song written by themselves called "The Flame".

The setup involved for the recording was with an acoustic drum kit, where a lot of practice time spent learning how to mic up a drum kit was learnt from Sound Production Practice as well as in the Multitrack Recording subjects while taking hints and tips from the Sound on Sound website, such as from this link: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1997_articles/dec97/drumiking1.html The setup also included recording of a bass and two guitars, where research led me to the amplified instruments guide on the Shure Microphones website: http://www.shure.co.uk/support_download/educational_content/microphones-basics/amplified_instruments

The real challenge that came from the recording was from the vocals, as the lead singer also wished to add in overdubs of secondary vocals by himself. This added the extra challenge of creating a new vocal track on ProTools, as well as marking the correct start position for the recording to begin again from for the secondary vocals to be added.

Health and Safety requirements had to be considered as well before recording could start, thus safe cable routing between the mics and control box was in place aiming for minimising the chance of any trips.
