Response to brief
Project 3 relates to The Remix and comes in two parts, the first part is the report on the history of remixing and creating a remix of an original song in a style of my own choosing.
Acquisition of stems
The acquisition of the stems for use in the remix track came from a site called www.indabamusic.com where it was hosting a remixing competition for the artist Justine Skye for her song ‘You Don’t Know’ where they provided all the stems from the track to download and import into the remixing software.
Your chosen remix style
For the style of remix I will be attempting to emulate, the best I can describe this would be a form of dance track that is more upbeat then the original song by Justine Skye while making this the equivalent of a radio edit where the length of the track will be between 3 and 4 minutes long with any foul language being removed in a creative way that doesn’t require muting, bleeping or other forms of masking.
The production techniques demonstrated with your remix
Production techniques that I aim to demonstrate within my remix cover the areas of Time Stretching Audio to beat match existing elements, Pitch shift audio, Reverse Audio, Match pitch and timing of MIDI information, applying two different tempo related effects, The creation of a tape delay effect with saturation, applying high and low pass filters and using Midi to trigger sampling audio events.
The proposed market for your remix
The proposed market for my remix would be from the ages of 15 to 35 who have an interest in dance music. From a commercial release point of view, as the STEMS have come from a competition site, they do allow us to publish the track but it would not be for profit. The only opportunity to gain anything financial would be to have the winning votes from the competition page where there is on offer a prize of $500 and inclusion on a release single.
Timescales
Week One – Monday – Issuing of STEMS, Learn about the original track
Wednesday – Work on basic plan for task ahead
Friday – Discuss topics in class for History of Remixing Report.
Week two -Monday & Wednesday – Research and work on Remixing Report
Friday – Reintroduction on how to work with Ableton Live in class.
Week Three - Completing Remix report and working on the Remix task
Week Four - Completion of Remix task and having it available online.
Resources
The required resources to make this remix require a desktop computer with enough CPU power to handle the task, A good quality Audio interface (Digidesign Mbox, Sound Blaster ASIO certified SoundCard) which can run the software program Ableton Live. This would be something I would use the college resources for as they have these in place already as well as my home computer as it also matches the requirements to handle Ableton Live and the task of making the remix.
