Female Vocals for Need You Now

For the vocals of Need You Now this requires both a Male and Female singer so for this I brought in local singer Steph Gilmour who has been performing in live venues for a number of years.

For this recording I was aiming to capture the sound as close as possible to how the original song was recorded but as they used the u67 which is a Mic we do not have here at the college I had to research the response range of this mic and attempt to match it with a mic we have here as close as possible. After a bit of time researching a number of Mics it was found that the KM-184's frequency response matched the u67's closest so this was the mic of choice for recording.

As the u67 is a tube based mic the 184 will not sound as warm so in post production there will be research into techniques to add a warmness to the sound.

Also as part of matching the original recording the vocals were recorded through the use of a compressor I added this into the setup so that Steph's vocals would be recorded with the compressor working live. For this the Warm 76 compressor was used with the settles set at a subtle level so that they dont over power the vocals as they are performed.
